Workshops
As LeftLion Magazine Editor, Bridie Squires, together with Nottingham’s Young Poet Laureate Georgina Wilding, wrote poems with the people of Nottingham. The two bards created a series of workshops that took place in Bestwood, Bulwell, the city centre, Hyson Green, Lenton and Sneinton. The aim of these was to celebrate Nottingham by bringing different communities together through creative writing.
After playing around with poetry skills and techniques with workshop attendees, and exploring what everyone loves about our city, Georgina and Bridie created a poem inspired by the memories and stories written about in the workshops. Our Nottingham Things was born. A Nottingham version of The Sound of Music song, My Favourite Things, no less.
Nottingham City Council’s initiative Nottingham Together supported the project, and LeftLion videographer Georgianna Scurfield created the poetry film that sees local faces belting out the collaboration good and proper. The short film above explains in a little more detail the process and ethos behind the workshops designed by Bridie and Georgina.
